Recently, a British delegation headed by Alistair Sambell, Vice Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield, paid a visit to ECUST. Yan Haifeng, Vice President of ECUST, met with the British guests and presided over the talks. Li Xiaopeng, Dean of the College of International Education, Tang Jimin, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Zhao Wei, Associate Professor of the School of Foreign Languages, also attended the meeting.

The two universities jointly established the world’s first Confucius Institute for Science and Technology Innovation in the UK in July 2019, marking a milestone in bilateral cooperation. Over the previous four years, teachers and students from both universities had worked hand in hand with sincere cooperation, overcome numerous difficulties including the epidemic, and made unremitting efforts for the establishment and development of the Confucius Institute. In July that year, 18 students from the Confucius Institute at the University of Huddersfield made their first visit to ECUST to participate in a summer program, gaining an in-depth experience of the richness of Chinese culture and the pace of China’s development.
At the time, the Confucius Institute had not only become a platform for teachers and students at the University of Huddersfield to understand and learn about Chinese culture, but also an important bridge serving local communities and advancing people-to-people exchanges. The two sides planned to launch the Huddersfield-ECUST Teacher-Student Exchange Funding Program the following year to further promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
Before the meeting,
Alistair Sambell and his delegation visited ECUST’s university history
exhibition room and the Feringa Nobel Prize Scientists Joint Research Center,
where they learned about the university’s development history, state-of-the-art
research platforms and academic achievements.
