The International Joint Research Center of Green Energy Chemical Engineering (IJRC-GECE), established with the approval of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology in February 2018, is a national-level research institution hosted by East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST). Under the leadership of Prof. Xiaolong ZHOU and guided by an academic committee chaired by academician Jin’an WANG, the center operates under a director-led system with dedicated administrative support.

The center is dedicated to pioneering sustainable energy solutions through cutting-edge research in key areas including:
Clean utilization of traditional energy;
New energy development (e.g., solar, hydrogen);
Energy storage and conversion technologies;
Polymer-based energy materials;
Clean process engineering;
Waste resource recycling.
Equipped with specialized research platforms such as the Solar Materials Platform, Novel Battery Platform, and Advanced Energy Storage Materials Platform, IJRC-GECE fosters innovation and international collaboration. Located in Shanghai - a global nexus for education, research, and industry - the center has partnered with leading institutions across the U.S., Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Mexico, Turkey, etc., serving as a benchmark for international scientific collaboration.
Aligned with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, IJRC-GECE bridges domestic technological advancements with global market demands to elevate China’s leadership in green energy chemical engineering. By transitioning from “follower” to “leader” in key technological domains, the center aims to accelerate the commercialization of sustainable solutions and the expansion of international innovation networks.
