Approved for establishment in April 2019, the International Collaborative Joint Laboratory for Intelligent Optimization and Manufacturing in the Petrochemical Industry partners with world-class university laboratories.
By leveraging high-quality international scientific resources, it has gathered top-tier global scientists, assembled a high-level international academic team, and established an influential international research platform in the field.
The Laboratory focuses on cutting-edge research in intelligent optimization and manufacturing for the petrochemical industry. It integrates global scientific resources, attracts world-class talents, and conducts advanced scientific research and talent development through substantive international cooperation.

The Laboratory aims to enhance China’s foundational theories and key technologies in this field, supporting the deep integration and development of artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligent manufacturing under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Its research directions include:
Fundamental research on intelligent technologies for petrochemical manufacturing processes;
Knowledge automation enabling production planning and optimization decision-making;
Whole-process collaborative optimization, operational control, and virtual manufacturing;
Lifecycle safety and environmental footprint monitoring, risk traceability analysis, and control.
The Laboratory addresses critical scientific challenges in intelligent optimization and manufacturing for the petrochemical industry, driving original basic research and applied technological exploration.
It consists of 55 full-time members, including 24 professors/researchers and 26 associate professors/associate researchers. Through international collaboration, it has attracted 14 foreign academicians and 62 international scholars (including 21 IEEE Fellows and 2 AIChE Fellows).

The laboratory maintains close partnerships with globally renowned institutions such as University College London (UK), University of Sheffield (UK), and University of Surrey (UK), fostering stable, open, and mutually beneficial international exchanges.
