The State Key Laboratory of Green Chemical Engineering and Industrial Catalysis was jointly established by Sinopec Shanghai Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology Co., Ltd. and East China University of Science and Technology with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China on September 30th, 2015. In April 2023, it passed the expert panel review organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission.
Addressing the critical demands of China’s Dual-Carbon strategy and bottleneck technologies, alongside major challenges in green chemical industry and industrial catalysis industry, the Laboratory aligns with three important development directions: resource diversification, process greening and product premiumization.
It focuses on four research directions: catalytic conversion technology of diversified carbon resources, catalytic technology of process greening and low-carbon catalytic technology, production technology of high-end chemicals and new catalytic materials.

Through constructing precise catalytic systems, identifying and refining key scientific issues, and developing efficient R&D paradigms, the Laboratory aims to break through critical common technologies in green chemical catalysis to achieve atom-economical precision manufacturing of chemicals.
The Laboratory aims to establish itself as a pioneering hub for applied fundamental research innovation, and an international talent nexus in green chemical engineering and industrial catalysis.
This mission will provide robust technical underpinnings for China’s green chemical industrial chain development, and world-leading catalytic technologies to drive global sustainable chemical production.
The Laboratory provides a research team with optimal age distribution and sustained innovation, including 196 full-time researchersi n the fields of industrial catalysis, chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, theoretical catalysis, etc.
