International Forum on Imports

The International Forum on Imports is hosted by the East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) and organized by its School of Business and School of Law. It has been successfully held for eight sessions so far. Established in 1952, ECUST is the first higher education institution in the People’s Republic of China to specialize in chemical engineering and is renowned as the “Cradle of Chemical Engineers”. In recent years, the university has actively implemented the national strategy for high-level opening-up, vigorously expanded international cooperation and exchanges. It has deepened educational partnerships with world-class universities and pioneered joint education initiatives, including the establishment of the ECUST Sibiu Sino-European International Business School (Romania).

In the 1990s, responding to the national demand for reform and opening-up, ECUST established the School of Business. It has since earned three authoritative international accreditations and ranks among the top 1% of elite business schools globally. It also hosts international cooperation platforms such as the Oliver Hart Research Center of Contracts and Governance, named after the 2016 Nobel Laureate in Economics and Honorary Professor at ECUST.

The School of Law, established in 2006, is a novel institute leveraging the university’s strengths in science and engineering to feature an intersection of law and technology. With 80% of its faculty possessing overseas study experience, it participated in establishing the Ministry of Education High-Level International Talent Training Innovation Practice Base in 2021 and was approved as a Shanghai Base for Law-Based Governance in 2023. These achievements provide a solid foundation for the university to promote high-level opening-up and empower the development of an open world economy. As a platform for academic exchange and a bridge for international communication, the International Forum on Imports offers valuable academic insight and intellectual support for developing a new system of a high-level open economy, contributing to the success of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) as a globally acclaimed economic and trade gathering.
