Fuzhen Xuan Visited BASF to Explore New Trends in the Future Chemical Industry
Recently, Fuzhen Xuan, President of ECUST, led a delegation to BASF. The visit focused on the future of the chemical industry and ways to strengthen university–industry collaboration and innovation. Dr. Jeffrey Lou, President of BASF Greater China, met with the delegation. Wei Han, Vice President of BASF, and Wenli Du, Vice President of ECUST, participated in the discussion.
Xuan noted that ECUST established the Center for Future Chemical Innovation. The center aims to drive the transformation of the chemical industry towards greener and more intelligent solutions, while continuously strengthening deep cooperation with the industry. He expressed the hope to further deepen cooperation with BASF in scientific research, talent development, and the transformation of research achievements, jointly exploring new models and mechanisms for engineering education and talent cultivation in the new era.
Lou noted that ECUST has long been one of the key partners of BASF in China. Both sides have established a solid foundation in collaborative research, talent development, and the exploration of frontier technologies. He hoped that the two parties would further deepen open innovation cooperation and accelerate the industrial application of scientific research outcomes.
ECUST and BASF have built a partnership for nearly three decades, covering various fields such as research collaboration, industrial innovation, and talent development. Under the framework of the Network for Asian Open Innovation (NAO), the two parties have achieved remarkable results in areas including circular plastics, biomass conversion, process optimization, advanced materials, and intelligent manufacturing.
In the future, both sides will jointly explore and identify specific cooperation opportunities, translating academic research outcomes into practical applications, and empowering the integration of digitalization and artificial intelligence in the chemical industry to create shared value.
