Building No. 4 on ECUST’s Xuhui Campus has been renovated and is set to reopen with a refreshed look.

The history of the Xuhui Campus dates back to 1954, when East China Institute of Chemical Technology, the predecessor of ECUST, moved to the Meilong Road campus. The campus has since become an important part of the university’s history and academic life.

For years, Building No. 4 has served as a venue for teaching, examinations, student interviews, and academic activities.

The renovation preserves the building’s distinctive red-brick exterior while introducing a simpler and more welcoming interior. Refreshed lounge areas now provide comfortable spaces for individual study, group discussions, and informal academic exchange.

By bringing together its familiar architectural character and a renewed learning environment, the renovated building preserves a sense of continuity while creating new possibilities for campus life.

Here, students can experience the university’s history while beginning a new chapter of their academic journey.
