Around the time of the Mid-Autumn Festival and China’s National Day, members of the ECUST University Student Art Troupe brought music and dance to Uzbekistan, a country along the ancient Silk Road.

At the invitation of the Chinese Embassy in Uzbekistan, and in line with the spirit of the 26th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the ECUST University Student Art Troupe traveled to Uzbekistan for cultural exchanges. The troupe visited four local educational and cultural institutions, giving performances and taking part in cultural and artistic exchanges with local teachers, students, and performers. It built a platform for mutual learning between the two countries and injected youthful vitality into China-Uzbekistan friendship.

The Sino-Uzbek Youth Concert took place at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan. The ECUST troupe presented orchestral works, dances, and choral pieces, showcasing the charm of traditional Chinese culture. Uzbek participants also presented folk performances. At the concert’s finale, young performers from both nations sang the Uzbek classic YOR-YOR together, conveying joy and mutual goodwill.

In the following days, the troupe visited the Uzbekistan State World Languages University and the State School of Dance. At the university, its performances included a piece inspired by the Chinese legend of the Butterfly Lovers. Uzbek performers responded with vibrant folk dances and songs that embodied Central Asian customs. The two sides also held interactive dance workshops.

Later, the troupe paid a visit to the prestigious “Bakhor” State Dance Ensemble, where they exchanged folk music and dance. ECUST students played bamboo flutes and pipa, while Uzbek musicians played instruments including the dombra, doira and yangqin. Young performers shared folk stories behind these instruments and deepened mutual understanding between civilizations.

This marked ECUST’s first overseas tour focused on youth cultural exchange. The high-quality performances demonstrated the troupe’s professionalism and the university’s achievements in aesthetic education. Moving forward, ECUST will continue to build platforms for people-to-people exchanges under the Belt and Road Initiative, and spread Chinese culture through young voices.
