Recently, the Student Affairs Office at ECUST organized student coordinators from the university’s work-study program to visit the 48th WorldSkills Competition at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). Through this on-site learning activity, students gained firsthand insight into the value of skilled craftsmanship, technological innovation, and professional excellence.

Held under the official slogan “Master Skills, Change Your Future,” the competition brought together 1,385 young competitors from 68 countries and regions to compete in 64 skill categories. Widely known as the “Skills Olympics,” the event showcased cutting-edge technologies and the latest developments in vocational skills from around the world.

As they toured the exhibition halls, the students observed competitions and demonstrations across a wide range of disciplines. They watched contestants build complex network systems, adjust sophisticated industrial training equipment, and demonstrate advanced technical expertise with remarkable precision. Innovative exhibits, including a four-armed calligraphy robot, a non-invasive blood glucose monitoring device, and precision equipment for chemical engineering and intelligent manufacturing, vividly illustrated how technological innovation and skilled craftsmanship are driving industrial development and improving everyday life.

The visit gave students a deeper appreciation of the role that technical skills play in innovation and economic development. Witnessing the competitors’ professionalism, dedication, and attention to detail also inspired them to bring the same spirit of excellence to their own academic studies and campus work.

The activity forms part of ECUST’s broader efforts to integrate labor education with student development. Through its work-study program, the university has established a comprehensive education model that combines practical work experience, skills training, values guidance, and career development. By participating in real-world learning experiences, students are encouraged to strengthen professional competencies, develop a strong work ethic, and cultivate a deeper understanding of the dignity and value of labor.

The visit also provided practical experience to help ECUST improve its work-study program and the quality and effectiveness of labor education. Looking ahead, ECUST will continue to make use of high-quality experiential learning platforms to advance labor education and skills development.
